Match Preview: Crew 2. vs Toronto FC II

Columbus Crew 2 are basking in their 3-game win streak and look to continue that streak going up against Toronto FC 2 this Sunday at 2pm from Historical Crew Stadium. After a 2-0 win over Orlando City B behind goals from Jacen Russell-Rowe and Erik Hurtado, the Black & Gold are looking to continue their winning ways and keep firm on the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Crew 2 will be without Noah Fuson, who joined Caleb Porter and the first team on a short-term loan agreement.

Mohamed Farsi had two assists in the win last Friday night, letting his great form shine repeatedly. Head Coach Laurent Courtois reiterated how “him and the team were surprised by the turn out of fans for the home opener,” but were impressed by the Black & Gold to keep working hard when Orlando City was attacking in transition. When asked about how Toronto FC 2 matches up, Courtois said, “Toronto is a dangerous team in transition.”

Jacen Russell-Rowe is now the Columbus Crew 2 all-time leading scorer. Russell-Rowe has two goals in as many matches making him the most in-form player on the team. “Matching with Toronto we just have to keep doing what we have been doing”, said Russell-Rowe. One key contributing factor to his goals has been, “how we have been pressing in games”, Russell-Rowe said to the media on Thursday. “I made it my personal goal to be the first to score in this historical stadium,” Russell-Rowe said.

After the disappointing loss to Inter Miami II to start the season, the Black & Gold have turned things around and rightfully earned their top spot in the conference. Kickoff is slated for 2pm from Historic Crew Stadium. You can watch the match on the official MLS Next Pro website.
