The team to watch

Coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes kicked off their season with an upset victory over the #17 TCU Horned Frogs. A win that shocked football fans for multiple reasons. The most notable reason is TCU’s outstanding finish to last season. TCU finished their 2022 season as one of the top-ranked collegiate teams, coming in 2nd place overall on the final AP poll and comfortably claiming 1st place in the Big 12 conference as well. Fans all around saw this game as a sure win for the Horned Frogs season opener. However, the “Sanders” squad saw things differently.

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders had an amazing opener. He threw for 510 yards breaking the school’s record for yards passed in a single game. He also records 4 touchdowns, 38 completions at 47 attempts, zero interceptions, and a notable 4 sacks. Now that’s a season kickoff for the books. The young QB states in a press conference “I feel like I missed a lot of stuff, I could have been better.”

Well Shedeur, we are our own worst critic. Fans all around were amazed by this young man's fieldplay. Spreading the ball equally amongst each of his receivers, his completions and touchdowns were off the charts. I’m excited to see what’s in store for the Colorado Buffs.

Week two brings on Rival Nebraska Cornhuskers as Shedeur jokes, “Don’t wear red in the stadium.” This has been a long-time rival for the Buffs going back to when both teams were in the Big 8. Shedeur and company definitely plan to come out on top this year, stating “Our mentality is, no matter how the other team is doing good or bad, we should always have the want to score every drive that we can. If we don’t then we have failed ourselves.” That’s definitely a statement to live up to.

How far does this team go? Is Colorado headed to the playoffs? Are bowl games in this team's future? The Buffs have officially made themselves “The team to watch” as the season progresses.
